Prince of Persia

A port of Jordan Mechner's 1989 Apple II Prince of Persia to the Tandy Color Computer 3. It runs on a stock 6809 with 512K, using graphics and character animation converted directly from the original Apple II assets.

Download and run

Mount the disks on a 512K CoCo 3 (floppy, CoCo SDC, DriveWire, MAME or XRoar) and type:

RUN"POP"

Put POP1.DSK in drive 0 and POP2.DSK in drive 1. The loader reads both disks, then expands its rendering caches before the first room appears, so give it a moment.

About this port

All twelve character tables (the Prince, guards, and the fat, shadow, skeleton and vizier variants) are converted straight from the Apple II files, with their original frame counts and ordering, so the original animation sequences drive them unchanged.

The background renderer draws every image in all four background tables, and the game paces frames so it never runs faster than the original (about 12 frames per second).

This is a work in progress. Expect rough edges.

The arrows map onto the Apple II game's movement keys, so moves work as they do in the original.
