Rotor Strike

An original top-down helicopter combat game for the CoCo 3. Fly over a scrolling tropical archipelago or a desert of mesas and canyons, take out the eight ground targets on each map, and fight off rival gunships. FujiNet multiplayer is the goal.

Download and run

Mount the disks on a 512K CoCo 3 (floppy, CoCo SDC, DriveWire, MAME or XRoar) and type:

RUN"RUNME"

Put the Islands disk in drive 0 and the Desert disk in drive 1. Press fire on the title screen, pick a level with UP/DOWN or 1/2, and press fire again. Level 2 switches to drive 1 on its own. Booting the Desert disk by itself goes straight to the desert.

Strike mode

  • Eight ground targets per level. Anti-aircraft guns and fuel depots on the islands; bunkers and SAM launchers in the desert.
  • Find them on the minimap. Every standing target is a red dot on the north-up minimap, and the dot disappears when it's destroyed.
  • Take them out. A target takes six cannon rounds, or a missile plus two rounds. It explodes, then leaves a scorched crater that stays.
  • Scoreboard. When the last target falls you get a results screen with targets destroyed, mission time, and kills, losses and score for all four helicopters.
  • Rival gunships. Three stand-in helicopters fly and fight now. They're there so FujiNet multiplayer only has to change where the moves come from.
